Exeter chooses to hide payment to Hughes
There is no check listed for either Hughes or his lawyers
Exeter Township has chosen to hide the payment to now former Supervisor Dave Hughes that is part of the settlement that concluded the lawsuit that Exeter filed against Hughes.
In the latest disbursement report, there is no check included for either Hughes or his lawyers. The report is part of the agenda released Friday afternoon for the Monday BOS meeting.
The check was sent by Exeter on Tuesday, August 6th, assumedly after the special meeting that the Supervisors held to confirm the settlement. It appears that the check was sent via an overnight service, because the check was delivered at 9:37 AM on Wednesday to the law firm of High/Swartz, Hughes’ law firm.
Check received Wednesday, resignation sent on Thursday, according to Hughes.
I contacted Exeter BOS Chair Jack Piho to ask why no check was included in disbursements, to which he replied, “When we approve the minutes of last Tuesday with the settlement agreement then the check will be listed on the August 26 BOS disbursements for approval.” But that doesn’t make sense, because then that means that all disbursement report checks approved have to wait two more weeks to be sent, until the meeting minutes are approved. Which makes even less sense when you consider that there was a time in 2021-22 when meeting minutes were literally MONTHS late. Did people wait for the checks for three or four months back then?
There’s a light agenda for the Monday meeting, which includes a liquor license transfer hearing. PLCB Liquor License No. R-21236 formerly belonged to V&S Sandwich Shop on North 9th St. in Reading.
There will be presentations from three firms who are vying to manage Township pension plans.
In the Administration section of the agenda, they’ll be voting on accepting Hughes’ resignation, to authorize advertisement of the acceptance of resumes for the position, and to hold a special meeting for interviews of candidates.
There will be several Zoning and Planning issues hammered out.
In Finance….
In Parks & Recreation, there will be a motion to approve a carnival next year and to approve a movie night at Trout Run.
The meeting will be Monday night at 7 PM at the township building.
